Audio Visual Performance in Engineering Classrooms

Note
The following were taken from IST’s ITMS, but Engineering Computing works closely with ITMS and follows the same standards.

The expected performance from HDMI cables provided for user BYOD laptop connection is the following:

Notes:

  • We only recently (2020s) removed the specification for VGA in classrooms. It takes our equipment over 10 years to be fully rolled over.

  • As such, our specifications must be to a base minimum regardless of current existing technology capabilities.

  • We have adopted the HDMI specification (in favor over DisplayPort, DVI, etc) because the specification is ubiquitous, and fully backward compatible with each new generation of HDMI specification. A HDMI2.1 supporting laptop will still fully support he HDMI1.0 specification if the specification is being adhered to.

Our laptop (BYOD) HDMI requirements:

  • Is full size type A male HDMI connector, non-locking, supporting not greater than the strict adherence to HDMI1.0 in both bandwidth, power availability, and compatibility.

  • Supports up to 1920x1080 @ 60Hz at 4:2:0 with 2ch LPCI 16bit audio Is superseded by the podium computer, where provided.

  • Performance beyond these specifications are unsupported, and the responsibility of the user (testing, making work, etc).

  • Non direct, dongle based connections are the responsibility of the user (macbooks with dongles, etc).

  • Adapters are the responsibility of the user (displayport to HDMI, etc).

We measure our conformance using:
