I realized that I should be able to transfer my preferences/settings from one computer with Thunderbird to another.
The general procedure is as:
find the location of your Thunderbird (tb) Profiles folder and, install.ini and profiles.ini file.
close tb on your computer that has the settings that you want.
zip the Profiles folder
copy zipped Profiles to the new tb profile location.
find its Profiles folder; you may need to open tb to create that folder location.
unzip the Profiles.zip
delete the contents of the new tb account’s folder.
copy the old contents into the new empty folder.
you should not need to change the new install.ini and profiles.ini.
open the new tb and everything should be setup for you.
Note: there is a shortcut to find tb’s Profiles folder below.
The details are in the follow instructions:
Profiles - Where Thunderbird stores your messages and other user data | Thunderbird Help
'How Do I Move Thunderbird to a New Computer?' the video and article.
Click ≡ > Help and select Troubleshooting Information. The Troubleshooting Information tab will open.
Under the Application Basics section, find the Profile Folder row, then click on Show in Finder. A window will open that contains your profile folder.

Note
|
If you are unable to open or use Thunderbird, follow the instructions in Finding your profile without opening Thunderbird. |
Click the Finder icon in the dock. On the menu bar, click the Go menu, hold down the Option or Alt key and select Library.
Open the Thunderbird folder, and then the Profiles folder.
Your profile folder is within this folder.
If you only have one active profile, and you are using Thunderbird ESR or Thunderbird release (two types of update channels), then "default-release" will be in the name by default (unless you have changed it) - both types of installs use the same profile name. Note: a folder name with just "default" without "-release" is normally an empty, unused dummy folder and can be ignored.
